Water Intake Calculator
Free Daily Water Intake Calculator
This water intake calculator gives a simple hydration estimate based on body weight, exercise, and climate. Hydration needs vary by person. Your daily fluid needs can increase with heat, sweating, physical activity, high altitude, pregnancy, breastfeeding, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or certain medications.
The calculator gives a practical starting point, not a medical prescription. Water also comes from food and other beverages. Some people need to limit fluids because of kidney, heart, liver, or medical conditions, so personal medical advice matters if you have a health condition.
Estimate your water needs
How this estimate works
A common everyday starting point is about half your body weight in ounces of fluid per day. Additional exercise can increase fluid needs because sweat losses must be replaced. Hot or humid climates may also increase needs. This calculator adds a modest amount of water for exercise and climate as a general planning estimate.
Example
A 180-pound person might start around 90 ounces per day. If that person exercises for 30 minutes and lives in a hot climate, a reasonable estimate may move closer to 110–120 ounces per day. Individual needs still vary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does coffee count as water?
Coffee and tea contribute to fluid intake, although plain water is still a simple hydration choice.
Can I drink too much water?
Yes. Drinking excessive water in a short time can lower blood sodium and become dangerous.
Do I need more water when exercising?
Usually yes, especially if you sweat heavily or train in heat.
How do I know if I am hydrated?
Thirst, urine color, sweat rate, and activity level can provide clues, but medical conditions can affect hydration signs.
